海洋生物研究室以台湾海峡及临近海域海洋生物学、分类学、生态学研究为特色，进行区域性海洋生态环境（主要包括浮游生物、底栖生物和渔业资源）评估和调查研究；从事海洋生物繁育和养殖技术研究与开发；以藻种保育中心为基础，开展微藻生化组成和活性物质研究。
The Department of Marine Biology is engaged in the studies on evaluation and investigation of regional marine ecological environment (mainly involving plankton, benthos and fishery resources) with the strength in the studies on marine-biology, taxology and ecology in the Taiwan Strait and its adjacent waters. The department is also engaged in the research and development of propagation and culture technique for marine organisms as well as research on bio-chemical composition and active substances of microalgae on the basis of algae breeding centre.
